I don't care to waste money on "holiday/seasonal" clothing, I'm a firm believer in making whatevers in your closet work. Is it really necessary to wear a red, white and blue dress with stars on Independence Day? Absolutely not. I think Little Marc Jacobs (skirt) mixed with Matilda Jane's Elaina (shirt) and a beautiful flower from LBB will suffice. This is one of my favorite outfits of the season, and the skirt is something that will definitely transition with us into fall.

I wish I had my real camera out before I left today. While waiting for Nanny Lindsey to whisk her away to The Playground, I attempted a real quick fringe french braid. I LOVE IT. Yes, it's not perfect- but it keeps hair out of her face and is perfect for hot summer days. Clipped it back with a flower from LittleBeautyBoutique on etsy and threw on some loungewear from Naartjie and VintagePearl. Also, I don't know WHERE she found that binky....but I assure you, my three year old doesn't use a pacifier. ;)

I don't think my daughter quite grasps the concept of weather/temperature/etc. She wanted to wear this top today, and after trying to explain that it would only be 60 degrees, I tried a different approach and persuaded her to pick out jeans to wear with it. I don't think she was freezing, so that's good....but I'm not a fan of summer tops with jeans. (STILL NEED THE CHAMBRAY SHORTS/BERMUDAS, BTW :D)

This top is from Janie & Jack's Sweet Summer Tea line from the previous summer, the jeans are Baby Gap, shoes are Converse and the flower clip is from LBB on etsy.

Thursday, March 11

Today's outfit was brought to you by the nanny, Lindsey. They like to play dress up while I'm gone, and I think it's nice for both Riley and her nanny to have a creative outlet once in awhile. The shirt is from Matilda Jane, the tutu was made by our favorite, Michelle :) and the headband is from LittleBeautyBoutique on etsy.
Picture #1 is "pretty face", Riley is in training for her first pageant this summer. We have A LOT of work to do, but she's starting to cooperate! Her newest personality/phase, Baby Gaga, channels the new Lady of Pop. Hopefully that craziness will come in handy during her first performance. :)

New Year, New Fashion.

January 3rd, 2010!

Last time worn: October 26, 2009

The Brownie Lap by Matilda Jane, revisited. This time I made an attempt to funk it up a little with the fiona in knit underneath it and the pale peony flowerband from LittleBeautyBoutique (check her out on etsy!). It kind of screams flower child to me, which I do not hate-- but this isn't working the way I had hoped. Brownie lap second time around just isn't doing it for me. *Gasp* I just said that, yes. But I will strive to make this a favorite again.

Junk Food tees have become socially acceptable in our household. I had feared this day would come, and it has. Okay, I know that sounds a little excessively dramatic but I DON'T LIKE CHARACTER CLOTHING. But it's not always about me. Actually, it's never about me save the exception of picking Riley's clothing. Lately, that has even become a battle that princess knows she is capable of winning given the time restraints on dressing some days and my "pick your battles with the stubborn two year old" attitude I've recently adapted. Hence the Fancy Nancy junk food holiday shirt. Riley is pretty convinced that FN and Olivia the Pig are either related to her or her best friends-- and she is all about them lately. Vamanos, Dora. Sorry, Kai-Lan, you no longer make Riley's heart super happy. It's all about the high maintainence girls in books that are so eerily relatable to little Miss Riley.

Anyway, once I got over the fact that the shirt isn't my favorite, I stood in awe of my little baby. Because she is TWO AND A HALF....and starting to look more and more like a child rather than a baby every day. Bittersweet? To say the least.

*Tuesday, Dec. 15*

We ran some errands today on a time limit. I didn't want to get stopped at every single store with "Where did you get her outfit", so I went with some understated attire today. Don't get me wrong, the compliments are nice-- but it's 10 days from Christmas and one of my last days to shop for everyone on my list before then, I'm in a rush and have an uncooperative two year old tagging along. The flower is from LittleBeautyBoutique (naturally- as if she hasn't worn it ten thousand times already), jeans, sweater and boots from Baby Gap, and the shirt is from Matilda Jane's Hotline from this summer. It's super thin and not great for winter, but she had her Gap warmest coat on all day anyway. This looks a little like a mini adult outfit to me, and I think it aged her because she got asked if she was 3 or 4 all day. Doesn't help that she is an amazon child and particularily chatty later in the afternoon I guess.

Last wear: http://rileycadance.blogspot.com/search/label/Burberry

Times now worn: 2

Nothing is better suited for a shopping trip and afternoon at the bookstore than Burberry paired with Uggs, right? Newest addition to our hair accessory obsession collection is this beautifully crafted Burberry flower made by the very talented Jessica of Little Beauty Boutique. She is such a doll for humoring me with this idea, and I adore the way it turned out!

Wednesday, November 4

Back to our regularly scheduled horrible fashion show pictures, folks. That was such a nice little run though, wasn't it? ;)

Today we just ran some errands so I threw Riley in the first thing I saw. The tunic is from Matilda Jane and the ruffle pants were made by vintagepearle on etsy. Her work is fabulous, and quick. The flower was put together by the lovely Jessica of LittleBeautyBoutique and the shoes are Lelli Kelly. Today was a collection of funky treasure pieces from little known designers. Nothing makes me beam more than telling someone of my new shopping adventures, and people ALWAYS ask questions about MJ! These pants solicited many compliments today, I almost wish I had the sellers card to hand out! Gotta love etsy!

Thursday, October 22

I love rain, but I HATE my pictures sucking from the terrible dark weather and bad lighting of my living room. No, I'm not an amazing photographer, but I'm pretty decent in natural light and this light is killing me. Guess I better get accustomed to using my darn flash.

This set is a favorite, but sadly the skirt and collared shirt are making a last appearance. The headband is from LittleBeautyBoutique on etsy, The shirts are from Crewcuts, the skirt and boots from Baby Gap. :) No, the skirt isn't insanely short, it's just scrunched up from Riley removing it and "fixing" it herself.

Monday, October 19th

We didn't have a pumpkin sweater from Janie & Jack this year, and we actually went to a pumpkin patch. I panicked. But I think this sweet little combo from Gap and Matilda Jane scream country girl. The boots were awesome to have on our unexpected 3 mile hike through corn and vine, thank you Baby Gap! The awesome flower clip is from our favorite headband from LittleBeautyBoutique on etsy. The skirt is the molly skirt from Matilda Jane's Gypsy Blue line. So twirly, yet practical. And yes, I am a dirty no-good line mixer, I know.

Wednesday, August 12th

I know, I have lost track of the blog....again. But I am striving to be back into the swing of things this month. My classes have begun and my work schedule is more regular and I'm figuring it all out, so back to the toddler fashion we go!

Today she wore a beautiful, simple cotton dress from Baby Gap's Villa line matched with a plain white Gymboree tee. The flower in her hair is from LBB and the shoes are from Gymboree. White sandals are the best investment during the summer, those things have been worn to death and I always feel good about tossing out a well worn pair of shoes. May sound weird, but having unworn shoes at the end of a season really bothers me since I always pay a good amount for sturdy, cute shoes. Gymboree is terrific for those basic sandal needs every summer.

Thursday, July 30th

Today was a dreary day, so I had Riley try on this new set from Crewcuts, J.Crew's mini me. The jeans are from Baby Gap, and the headband is from the one and only LittleBeautyBoutique on etsy. I paired the ruffled collared shirt with the Paris tee and absolutely love it. So classy and elegant, perfect for everyday wear for the stylin' two year old!

Wednesday, July 29

This was my must have dress from Matilda Jane's spring line, Hotline. I don't love it as much as I did when I ordered, but it is still a nice summer dress. It is very thin, which makes it great for the hot days we have had on and off. Today we paired it with Lelli Kelly's (cannot see in pic) and a beanie that I bought at Farmers Market downtown and threw on a flower from LBB. I love the combo together, I just wish the dress fit a little better- this baby runs BIG.

Friday, July 25

Perfection. Not for a day out taking pictures, not for church...it was saved for an average day at the zoo when I held up the Matilda Jane Yama plus Coco and said "Eh, this will do I suppose" I mean I didn't really care if I ruined it, nothing special. Then I added a stained shirt, also from MJ (lacey tank) and threw a matching flowerband on her head. She threw a huge fit about the shoes I picked out, and decided she would wear her red See Kai Run Geneva's that are a size too small. But after velcroing the straps of her too small shoes, I looked at my daughter and saw timeless beauty in the form of clothing. Some pieces that began as nothing special, even play clothes became the most complimented outfit in the history of Miss R's closet. Needless to say, this is now a favorite. Even if I did have to carry her when her too small shoes "makein my feet huuuuuwt".

"Vacation" Wear

Every year, my boyfriend's family goes on a family reuinon vacation to this bo-dunk lake town and stays at this cheesy, cheapy hotel and spends time together. They've done this for oh, the last 100 years or so, and haven't changed hotels once because it's part of the tradition. Basically,I'm giving you the back story so you can understand why the pics are awful, have horrid looking backgrounds and Riley is a mess in most of them. But we had fun, so whatever.

BEHOLD, The wonderfully beautiful, all powerful Set the Table apron dress from Janie & Jack. This is our second time owning this gorgeous piece, last time was for Riley's 1st birthday-- and being so afraid that I would ruin it, I sold it immediately after her pictures. This time around, the dress is for wearing. It is one of my favorites ever, and despite my goal of having her wear it once a week this is the only time she has this summer. It truly is a timeless, beautiful piece that encompasses the sentiment of being a little girl. The flower is from Little Beauty Boutique on etsy, a favorite :)

I love. love. love. these ruffles. Remember when I was beyond sad about our too-small Gracie May knot? Browsing through etsy as I do generally once a .....day--I spotted a new seller, vintagepearl(e?) and fell fast in love with these darling ruffles made of the same fabric as the apron of the Gracie May. Click. Buy. Mine. LOVE them on with a plain tank from Old Navy and a flowerband from the wonderful Jessica at LittleBeautyBoutique (closing soon--make your orders before they're gone!)

Sunday, June 7th

Today was my brother's graduation party (high school). As you can see, Riley was not too thrilled to be in attendance of a party not centered around her. However, she did look darling in her Matilda Jane Katie Lou & big leafy ruffles.

Thursday, May 28th

Today we went out to Saylorville again, it seems to be a once a week activity in the summer now that we live so close, and Riley sported a pretty new knit dress from Baby Gap with a tank underneath because of how low it dips, no baby cleav here thanks. The flower clip is a beautiful creation by Jessica at Little Beauty Boutique on etsy, I feel like we wear something from there daily! Riley is such a water baby, if only I didn't have student loans--we could buy a boat and float down the river for weeks!

Tuesday, May 26th

Despite the fact that it is slightly stained, I adore the Matilda Jane lacey tank Riley is wearing in this picture. When I opened up my MJ box many months ago, I was admittedly a little disappointed in it but the minute Riley wore it I thought it was perfect. Simple and comfy but at the same time frilly and girly. Definitely a keeper. Today I paired it with Gap chambray jeans, Target shoes and a LBB headband.
