Riley hangs out at Saddle Creek for the day when she was 3, before we lived in Omaha. We had just spent months in Los Angeles, so she wore a excessive layered look of Gap, Gymboree, American Apparel, Olive Juice and Zara.
We spent an entire day at Houston Airport in this comfy skinny jean and t set from Zara.
Hanging out at The Grove in Los Angeles in a jean jacket from Baby Gap; skirt, purse and scarf from Zara, Am Appy socks and pink Converse. We went to The Squeegees on this day.
This was Xmas Eve of the roughest year. This was her tree, it's a long story. Being a real trooper in a dress from Crewcuts and a Target sweater and belt.
Dressed up as a hipster (as a joke) in some Target lace leggings, She & Him shirt as a dress, theatre 3d glasses and her signature Riley jean jacket.

I'm considering abandoning my commitment to neglect this blog and bring it back to speed. However, there is a full year of missed posts and a toddler who is now quite the independent little child (as if she was ever NOT independent...). The new posts will be a far cry from the old ones, as I haven't an idea what most line names are, nor have I shopped at Gymboree in over a year. Riley is responsible for her fashion most days, but we'll try blogging her picks on a trial basis, and hope you stick around to see how we've evolved.

Toddler Hairstyles: Are bangs a necessity?

I love fringe. I have thicker side swept (almost straight accross) bangs, so I obviously like the way they look. On adults. I've not been a fan of them on children for the most part after seeing ad after ad of kids where their bangs are cut too high. I think they do not fit kid's typically chubbier faces. I never would've decided to cut Riley a set because of the style...but I couldn't deal with her pushing her hair out of her face ALL DAY anymore. So we took the plunge and chopped away. Hallelujah, her hair is out of her face and I don't have to mess with it all day. Sure there are kids out there who have straight hair that is easily pulled back and tamed, but not this girl- and I feel like a mom-revelation has clicked when I realized why so many toddler girls have bangs. They are totally a necessary evil, like taxes or social networking.

I think they look a little odd, and a little mini hipsterish, but they are growing on me. What do you think?

You know, for a 3 year old she has some pretty big dreams.

When she's not busy trying to be the next T.Swift:

She's busy practicing ballet for her future with the ABA.

She's VERY professional and dedicated to that dream.

And when she isn't in dance class or frolicking around cornfields in a dream-like pixie state, she's dreaming about her "boyfriend" Alex, who moved across the pond.

Alex, this smile is for you.

Because you're the bribe that it takes to get a 3 year old girl to smile apparently. She was very adamant about the fact that this smile was for Alex, and not for Mommy in the slightest.

So apart from being obsessed with becoming a country music sensation/professional ballerina, she is also boy crazy.

Lucky me.

What a Difference a Year Makes

I don't know what is more bizarre: The fact that this Mim Pi beauty still fits a year later, or the fact that I inadvertently put her in this dress for what I assumed would be the last time EXACTLY one year after the first time she wore it. I think I creeped myself out with that coincidence.

It is amazing how much one child can grow and change in a year.

She has a maid, a chef, and a personal assistant all rolled into one person-- it really is no wonder that she truly believes without a doubt that she is a princess.

Sporting Dora and Hot Cocoa is never a faux pas for the fashion trendsetters. She does have to sport fashion for the upcoming season after all-- and if that means snowflakes in August, so be it. I won't comment on the fact that she rescued said outfit from the Goodwill pile.
One can never go wrong when wearing the fabulous Marc Jacobs.....except maybe when you forget to wear bottoms and put navy knee highs with brown cowgirl boots. *Shudder*

Paging the Wicked Witch of OZ..... I think the winds may have blown your stockings north to a little girl in Iowa. Black and white striped leggings are a must have this season. Paired with anything and everything of course. The busier the patterns the better!

The last few days we spent on vacation, in bathing suits. She wore Kate Mack for 4 days straight.

Now that we are home, Riley isn't really sure why she should have to wear actual clothes. Unfortunately, coming home from a trip means I have a bunch of stuff to catch up on and she had to put on something to leave the house.

She came up with this. She also wore her shoes on the wrong feet and had a boa, but threw them off before I could get a picture of the ridiculousness. I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle here, guys.

I knew that wearing a petti in public meant adding an extra 5-10 mins in every place we had to "run into". I was right. Riley kept asking why everyone was talking to her today, and I told her it was because she looked like Zsa Zsa Gabor. She laughed (as if she knew who I was comparing her to), and said "Noooo Mommy, it's because I look FABULOUS!"........Er, sure, Ri.

But I would like to say thank you to our wonderful friend Debbie who gave this princess shirt to Riley for her birthday, she loves it :) .....Maybe too much ;)

So you probably think I'm slacking. That I have better things to do than take a daily picture of Riley's clothes for this blog. Well, that's only partially true- but the real culprit behind the lack of entries this week is Miss Riley. I'm fairly certain she declared it "Naked Week", avoiding clothes at all costs. She was pretty bummed when I explained (for the thousandth time) that we cannot go out in public in the nude, and forced this adorable Janie & Jack set on her. True feelings about this are captured in picture above.

Times now worn: 2 --TWO?!?!? That is absolutely ridiculous as this is my FAVORITE in her closet right now. I think the fact that we lost the first pair of pants to a rust stain halted wearing it for awhile, so thank you so much to my wonderfully generous friend Sara for sending us replacement bottoms!!

Meet the Charli dress from Loves Me Not (Knot, I'm k/not quite sure since I didn't order from them directly). I fell in love with it when this dress launched on the website, but unfortunately since I have a life I missed out on ordering it. When that site goes live with new items, you have to literally check out with it in your cart the minute it comes up. It makes for a certain exclusivity, but is unfortunate since many customers would be head over heels to order a gem like this. I pouted for awhile and was bitter, but eventually I forgot about it. Then I found it in a listing on GF one day and bought it right away. It is so girly and gorgeous, my only concern is how well it will hold up in the wash. Keep your fingers crossed for me, Riley says it's her favorite dress now, so it's bound to get washed frequently!

I'm embarrassed to admit this is only the second time she has worn this dress because it was lost in the nevereverland of my closet. It's absolutely stunning and has the most beautiful detailing. Riley loves it because it's one of the softest dresses she owns, and I lost it....for a month and a half. Shame on me. This will be worn a thousand (or 5) more times before summer is over, I love this dress!

......And for those of you who are curious, that hunk of haulage in front of her is for my beauty blog. Don't laugh, it's my other vain hobby.

It's a cute and comfy set, I just tend to forget about the comfy sets. The capris are the lawn ruffle capris and I don't have a clue what the top nor the headscarf are called but I love this set for lounging at home.

I don't care to waste money on "holiday/seasonal" clothing, I'm a firm believer in making whatevers in your closet work. Is it really necessary to wear a red, white and blue dress with stars on Independence Day? Absolutely not. I think Little Marc Jacobs (skirt) mixed with Matilda Jane's Elaina (shirt) and a beautiful flower from LBB will suffice. This is one of my favorite outfits of the season, and the skirt is something that will definitely transition with us into fall.

New hair! New hair! New hair!

I finally gave Riley her first haircut. You probably don't notice a difference, but it's shorter now because I evened the back out. Until now, she had a lovely rat tail that went halfway down her back. It was thick too, and starting to become difficult to style in a way that didn't make it look crazy. It broke my heart to cut her hair since it took her about three years to grow it, but it needed to be done in order to maintain her gorgeous healthy curls. Hopefully it will be easier to do her hair the rest of the summer now!

The dress that is on backwards (she's a defiant little thing....) is from Gymboree.

Oh, the cringe worthy poses. I invision these pictures to become part of a collage for her E True Hollywood Story someday (since Riley has decided to become a "fashion girl" and all). I think I finally miss the genuine smile shots. Yes, they were harder to come by....but this will just not do, girlfriend.

Riley is wearing a Baby Gap top that we picked up yesterday during the sale. I honestly can't even tell you the line name or anything else, it's shocking but I haven't stepped in Gap for months. I've really stuck to the x# of outfits for summer rule I placed on myself, and while I'm proud for not caving....I can't wait to shop for her fall wardrobe! I love the vibrant color, and apparently she is a fan as well, she picked the shirt out to wear today.....and just the shirt. Good thing we weren't going anywhere I guess!

Braids, bows and hoola hoops- this post is for Nanny Lindsey. :) Riley has been carrying her new hoola hoop, a birthday gift from her nanny, everywhere lately. Hundreds of things knocked over later, she's still carrying it around like it's her best friend.

Today she wore a skirt set from Janie & Jack's Spring Celebration line. This set is absolutely adorable and still fits well even after an incident with the dryer, thank goodness. I made a first attempt at french braided pigtails, demonstrating just how much time I have on my hands lately....aka too much. I think this outfit brings out the sweet side of Miss R, if only in pictures.

I wish I had my real camera out before I left today. While waiting for Nanny Lindsey to whisk her away to The Playground, I attempted a real quick fringe french braid. I LOVE IT. Yes, it's not perfect- but it keeps hair out of her face and is perfect for hot summer days. Clipped it back with a flower from LittleBeautyBoutique on etsy and threw on some loungewear from Naartjie and VintagePearl. Also, I don't know WHERE she found that binky....but I assure you, my three year old doesn't use a pacifier. ;)

I'm glad that Target is on-trend, makes being fashionable affordable in these difficult economic times. (That kind of sounds like an ad, I admit.) I guess I'm on a jumper-thingy kick.

Before you point a finger and shame me, let me just say that NO I'm not slacking. Riley was naked for literally two days. Potty training. It's going to be the death of me.

We headed to the zoo, and what better time to sport some new(ish) giraffe themed Gymboree? This is not the best picture from the day, but I thought the real giraffe accented her belt so beautifully. I'm loving little rompers like this for humid summer days, but they are not conducive to potty training in any way.

I have no idea of the line name as I've been "off Gymbo" for the summer. During the warmer months, I usually gravitate towards Janie & Jack and boutique clothing- I just think frilly little dresses are the best for summer, but I am loving the romper look lately.

Is it really obvious that I've misplaced my Nikon this week? Anyway, this dress is from Janie & Jack's Flamingo Drive line. This was one of the dresses she recieved from my mom as part of her birthday present from her. It is a lot cuter on than I anticipated, but still not a favorite. It's special to her though, and that is all that matters. :) We didn't leave the house today, so I threw her hair in a ponytail- which as you can see became quite the mess within minutes of pulling it back. I really need more ideas for hairstyles for her. She has super curly, poofy hair and I prefer to stay away from heat styling as much as I can. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Today is my sunshine's birthday. I cannot believe she is 3 years old, and words cannot express how happy and proud she makes me on a daily basis. Happy birthday, my baby girl :)For her special day, she wore a beautiful set from Janie & Jack's Sweet Summer Tea line. She wanted to wear "a beautiful party dress" (her words haha), but since she was playing indoors and out all day, practicality beat us both out of the dream birthday outfit. I think this did the trick though, it was still a little dressy, but definitely adorable and practical at the same time.

I've been slacking badly on this blog, and for that I apologize. It was one test after another, in college and in life, and I'm back now. Settled into summer only to begin classes next week again, but with this new routine I will revive my blog and reincorporate it into my daily routine. I know Riley has sorely missed being harrassed daily by the camera, after all.

This dress is from Janie & Jack's "Sweet Coral Reef" line. Only my favorite line ever by the brand. A wonderful bowmaker from the GF website created the bow she is wearing here, and I have to say it is hands down the most beautiful bow we own. Thank you for this lovely piece of bow artwork. :)

So I have been slacking in a major way. It's finals week (well, I'm fortunate enough to have two weeks of finals- ha) and I've been busy pursuing new, exciting ventures. Riley has been well dressed and along for the ride, but my camera seems to have been neglected.

Anyway, today she wore a skirt that has been hanging shyly in the back of her closet. Nervous that it would be too tight, I kept it at a distance, saddened by the potential thought that it may be too small before she ever wore it.

It was not. It was baby designer heaven. Yes, she does sort of look like a mini adult here, but I think Riley and Marc Jacobs were meant for each other. (The shirt is Matilda Jane, who I don't love quite as much anymore.)

"We recycle, we don't just throw Gymbo away!"...sang to the tune of the 3 R's song. You know the one. Or maybe you don't, it's very possible that my school created it....but anyway.

This set is from last years Watermelon Picnic line. And yes, it is the same set she had last year. In the same size. And yes, it's a tight fit, but she's not showing belly or butt so it works for a sweltering summeresque day of play. The bow was made by a lovely lady, Amanda-- we absolutely adore the bows she made for us for last summer and plan to use these adorable bows as much as possible this summer as well! :)

I don't think my daughter quite grasps the concept of weather/temperature/etc. She wanted to wear this top today, and after trying to explain that it would only be 60 degrees, I tried a different approach and persuaded her to pick out jeans to wear with it. I don't think she was freezing, so that's good....but I'm not a fan of summer tops with jeans. (STILL NEED THE CHAMBRAY SHORTS/BERMUDAS, BTW :D)

This is in the running for 3rd Birthday Pictures Outfit. I just love it more than words. It's the Mim Pi "Who Let the Dots Out" suspender dress with a plain white tee from Baby Gap and a petticoat skirt from Von Maur, for extra kick.

I love the b&w contrast and the girly factor, Riley loves the twirl. I will cry when it no longer fits, I mean it. ISO next size up!

I don't like to give her candy, but felt the chocolate bunny was necessary....mostly so I could eat it. The rest of the goodies is Mommy dearest pushing my childhood favorites on her. Rainbow Brite (though I loved LaLa Orange more), Hello Kitty, Alice In Wonderland (okay, that was more of a teenage indulgence. Don't ask.), and My Little Pony. She loved this basket so much, that she snuck into the top shelf and opened it early.

This seems to be Riley's signature pose lately. It's "pageant face", on command, but not always as cute as it appears. We can thank Janie & Jack for today's Easter get up. It is from my beloved Spring Celebration line. I am forever falling in love with shirts that ride up, but I love it anyway.

Riley was all Naartjie'd out for her playday with Mommy today. The headband, dress, and ruffle pants you cannot see are all from the Spring 2 (I believe) line. This was one of our purchases in California and I'm still loving it. The shoes are Lelli Kelly....we may have a situation with these as we did the last pair with her wanting to wear "princess shoes" every day. Except now she knows the brand name and tells me that the ones at Target are knockoffs when we're in the shoe aisle....but that's a whole different story.

Riley woke up in a great mood this morning, she was so loving and helpful, I truly thought I was being April Fooled. She was just so sweet today that I didn't want to leave but unfortunately I had a test and major paper today and I was off for class in a rush.

Her nanny, who is planning to go to FIDM next year, took over as her "fashion coordinator" today. The top is from Janie and Jack's Yacht Party line and I have no idea what jeans those are because I cannot find them as she stripped down right before I got home. Paired with BAB's and a Princess jeep to enjoy the FINALLY beautiful weather!

This set has fast become my favorite. The top and headband are from the Daisy Garden line from J&J that is synonymous with ugly crotched frogs, but it did produce this shirt with the stunning cut and sweet print you see here. The bottoms are the lawn ruffles from Naartjie, they are a definite staple for our spring and summer wardrobe, and we have just about every color.

The best dressed girls in our town are both sporting their Lelli Kelly's and smiles here. :)

If you haven't noticed, we came crawling back to Janie and Jack this season as we do in the summertime. I don't think there is any clothing brand more classic and sweet for summer than J&J. Their fall and winter lines are usually pretty lackluster in my opinion, but for summer the sweet simplicity is like nothing else.

Liberty of London (for Target), Baby Gap and vintagey hat from the local street market has been combined today to create a boho chic spring look. Leaving the house, I was pretty dang proud of myself. Until Riley was trying on her new shoes (Lelli Kelly's and SKR's) and the child next to Riley asked her mother if Riley was Amish.

.......Awesome. Nothing against Amish people, but long dresses, buns and bonnets are just not my thing. Needless to say, I was a little annoyed that this tween girl didn't understand my vision for this outfit. Minutes later, I realized she was a kid and while attempting to devalue her opinion in my head, I took the hat off of Riley and left the public eye. I usually ignore any comments about wardrobe as I live in Iowa and don't take much offense to what anyone says here anyway (No offense, for those who live near me and ARE fashion savvy, I still love you ;)).....but I don't want to have Riley get weird looks from other children. So enjoy my failed attempt, you will not see this hat again my friends.

Today she wore the Naartjie layered asymmetrical dress with an Old Navy tutu underneath for added layers. I think it's a fun little combo, and it incorporated the tutu in a new way- which has become a challenge since it seems to be all Riley wants to wear lately. The matching bows were made by the lovely Sara last year for another Naartjie set, and imagine that...they still work perfectly for this years Naartjie!

I have an unrequited love of pintucked/stitched/gathered shirts. I buy them, loving them, but finding out shortly after tearing off the tags and making them mine that they are manipulative little tricksters who never quite hang and stay the way you would like. Though aesthectically pleasing on a hanger- it is all a deception, once you make actually purchase the shirt it shows you it's true colors and rides up and becomes a nusance all day. This shirt is the John Mayer of shirts. Nice to look at, but quite the pain in the ass when the day is done.

This shirt is from Janie & Jack, picked up during my Friends & Family Event trip in Omaha. The headband is also J&J, from the same line: Spring Celebration. Though the pants are not J&J, I found them to be a perfect match from Target, and a great solution to our unfortunate issue with J&J pants. They run very slim, and sometimes little girls "junk trunks" as Riley would say. So we ditched the yellow capris from Janie and paired up with the Target ones, that were a lot cheaper also. Bonus.

I am considering other options for this shirt however, because I do love it dearly. Anyone who can comment and post an accessible (not sold out, not from out of the country, not a local only shop) link for a yellow high waisted toddler skirt in a 3t-5t, or any color you think would look cute with this shirt has the potential to win a NEW COACH KEYCHAIN. Another gorgeous day, Spring may finally be making its debut here in the gloomy midwest! There was still quite a breeze though, so to the park Riley wore Gymboree knit pants and a Baby Gap Junk Food Hello Kitty shirt. This has been deemed her "play outfit". I generally let her play in all of her clothing, but this outfit is especially practical for the park- and I don't really mind if she destroys these pants, honestly. The shoes are the M&M knockoffs from Target, and she is wearing a m2m bow that you cannot see but I assure you is absolutely darling. Riley had a blast today! :)

Riley wore this same exact dress, The Matilda Jane Damsel in a Dress (Betsey Apron), last year on St. Patrick's Day- and since it was one of two green items in her closet today I decided it would be the perfect day to debut it....again. The differences in one year in the same child are just extraordinary, she's grown up so much.

This time we paired the dress with Gap undershirt & leggings as well as Gap boots....that amazingly still fit. We really need to find these in the next size up. Shameless plug for size 10! The bow is from our good friend, Sara. She's such a sweetheart, always sending us piggie bows and asking for nothing in exchange. We love our bows, Sara! But not as much as we love you :)

Some days it truly is impossible to capture a decent picture of a toddler. Today was one of those days. She's in head to toe Gymboree today, minus the Target shoes. This is the new turtle line from Gymboree-- what is it called again? The ruffle detail on the shoulders is adorable and turtles are a little bit of a clothing obsession in this house. This will be a great play set when Spring decides to stick around.

Today's outfit is a result of the most stubborn toddler ever. Meet Your Highness, the princess miss Riley Cadance. Not only did she insist on wearing this....unique....combination- she decided I was only to address her as Your Highness today. I jokingly handed her the tiara we had purchased recently at Disneyland and she was delighted to wear it all day. Though I probably discourage such behavior, I indulged her for the day. She's off to the grandparents tonight, anyhow. :)

The tiara is from Disneyland, the shirt is from Naartjie, the skirt is the Molly from Matilda Jane, and the leggings and white undershirt are from Baby Gap. This answers the age old question of: What would a two year old wear if she could pick her own clothing?

I'm not loving the answer here. Does anyone else allow their toddler to pick out their own outfits? I'd love to hear feedback on the topic, and Riley would LOVE to know how you like her "pretty outfit" :)

I'm ready to get back into the swing of things. A lot of things have changed in the past two months since I've posted regularly, but I'm back, and hoping to stay that way. For those of you who have been there for me, your support means the world to me and I cannot thank you enough.

On to the clothes! Outfit of the day: Meet my boyfriend, Marc Jacobs.

You may be in the "buying children designer clothing is ludacris!" camp, but you can't deny how perfectly sweet and simple this dress by the Little Marc Jacobs label is. Layered with a plain Gap undershirt and Matilda Jane brownie ruffle leggings, the "Wow Theory" pulls together yet another favorite of mine.

Designer labels don't have to cost you an arm and a leg if you know how to search for them. Froogle it. eBay it. No one knows, nor do they care. Sure, I could use that same theory applied to dressing a child in general, but don't children deserve the best you can offer them? I mean you wouldn't let a child sleep on an infested, uncovered mattress underneath another child in a crib, would you? Why wouldn't you dress them to the best of their ability and raise their confidence early in the game? I know this isn't the thinking of everyone, but it is mine- hence the blog. Feel free to share your views in the comments. :)

Naartjie

For those of you unaware, Naartjie is a South African kids clothing company that isn't too spendy and is all about layering. We have had Naartjie sets before, but only when they were gifted to us were they truly adorable. I never understood why I couldn't put together an outfit online to save my life until the moment I stepped in my first Naartjie store in Mission Viejo, California. Though the customer service at that location was less than stellar, I know that Naartjie prides themselves on excellent customer service and I recieved such at the second location I visited, Irvine Spectrum. Once in the store, I figured it out. Everything was prettier in person, and the matches were so much easier to make. I had to shop in store from now on. Problem: I live in a cornfield. We're lucky to have the stores we do, praying for a Naartjie would probably go unanswered eternally. Everything is built on layers, making it the perfect clothing for vacation or living in the midwest with it's fickle seasons. After being able to make outfits in person, I'm in love. We took a few sets home with us, and I couldn't be happier! Must haves: Lawn ruffles, "essentials" (layering shirts) and for some, the Jie Jie line. GO ORDER :)

Outfit: Every once in awhile, the kids' section at Target will surprise you. When I found this dress, I was floored. For obvious reasons, I absolutely love this dress. Yes, my daughter probably has more outfits with black and white...and polka dots...then necessary. But this was only $13. Now I just have to cross my fingers that it will hold up in the wash!

Hair today: Now that Riley actually has hair, I like to try different things with it. While I'm still restricted in my "creativity" due to the curly-ness and shortness of her hair, I'm trying! :) Today we did low curly pigtails with boutique bows we purchased from the lovely bowmaker, Michelle of Luna's Garden Boutique.

We finally wore the Gap furry dress I just HAD to have when it came out. Wore it to Target today to hear from multiple people that it was on sale for like $4. Cool. Not like I spent $100 on it or anything, but I really need to start watching for better deals at Baby Gap.

We threw on some basic browns underneath, pulled her hair into two buns with bows and pulled on the gap slouchy boots for probably the last time.

I finally scored the infamous Stella McCartney (for Baby Gap) necklace tee shirt. Though the bottom of the shirt kind of irritates me because it seems to have a life of its own....I absolutely love this shirt. On Christmas Eve, Riley wore her Burberry skirt with a plain red shirt, black tights and Uggs. I was beyond irriated with myself because I left her gorgeous LBB hair accessory at work the day before and had to settle for this Burberry bow that just doesn't live up to the LBB flower :( But we made do, and I think she looks Christmas Eve perfect :)

Christmas Day called for something a little more formal, and I have been waiting for the perfect day to bring this beauty out from Janie and Jack. It's from the Beautifully Adorned line and I think the name says it all. Paired with the infamous Target "sparkle fancy shoes", a flower headband from Christine Hilbert on etsy, and a last minute sweater.....I don't think I could've found a prettier Christmas day outfit. Now I just need to take her out and get professional pictures in it.

Junk Food tees have become socially acceptable in our household. I had feared this day would come, and it has. Okay, I know that sounds a little excessively dramatic but I DON'T LIKE CHARACTER CLOTHING. But it's not always about me. Actually, it's never about me save the exception of picking Riley's clothing. Lately, that has even become a battle that princess knows she is capable of winning given the time restraints on dressing some days and my "pick your battles with the stubborn two year old" attitude I've recently adapted. Hence the Fancy Nancy junk food holiday shirt. Riley is pretty convinced that FN and Olivia the Pig are either related to her or her best friends-- and she is all about them lately. Vamanos, Dora. Sorry, Kai-Lan, you no longer make Riley's heart super happy. It's all about the high maintainence girls in books that are so eerily relatable to little Miss Riley.

Anyway, once I got over the fact that the shirt isn't my favorite, I stood in awe of my little baby. Because she is TWO AND A HALF....and starting to look more and more like a child rather than a baby every day. Bittersweet? To say the least.

We ran some errands today on a time limit. I didn't want to get stopped at every single store with "Where did you get her outfit", so I went with some understated attire today. Don't get me wrong, the compliments are nice-- but it's 10 days from Christmas and one of my last days to shop for everyone on my list before then, I'm in a rush and have an uncooperative two year old tagging along. The flower is from LittleBeautyBoutique (naturally- as if she hasn't worn it ten thousand times already), jeans, sweater and boots from Baby Gap, and the shirt is from Matilda Jane's Hotline from this summer. It's super thin and not great for winter, but she had her Gap warmest coat on all day anyway. This looks a little like a mini adult outfit to me, and I think it aged her because she got asked if she was 3 or 4 all day. Doesn't help that she is an amazon child and particularily chatty later in the afternoon I guess.

For the last wear of the Gap Deauville skirt that I adore so much, I switched things up a little and paired it with the white corsage tee as opposed to the black that we usually do (well, twice). Piggies are adorned with small white bows from Sara and once again Miss R is tight-less due to potty training. Anyway, au revoir, beautiful deauville skirt. We only knew you for a short time, but you were an instant favorite. Off to eBay for the next size up!

Time for a new section of the Riley Fashion Log Blog, RILEY REVIEWS! Now that she is a full fledged little person, she has her own opinions and is very verbal with them. After all, this blog is a window for her when she is older-- I want her to participate in it :) Expect Riley Reviews to be short, sweet and to the point.

Today Riley wore OPI's "Linkin Park After Dark" in suede on her little nails. This color is unique because of the suede finish, it dries ultra quick and varies from the original "LPAD" shade. I absolutely love it. Riley's opinion?:

"Purple is SO pretty on my nails, Mom-Mom. I LUFF IT!"

There you have it, if it's good enough for Miss High Maintainence, it should pass just about anyone's standards.

We are literally snowed in. This is Iowa. One day it is almost 60 degrees and breezy, the next your driveway has 14 inches of snow and you are unable to leave. The state knows what it is doing, it traps its citizens in. Why else would I stay here? Anyway, Riley BEGGED to go play in the snow the minute she woke up. I held it off as long as possible, knowing all too well the moment I gave in she would make it a point to attempt to stay out ALL DAY. And she did. But I didn't let her freeze, and for that I suffered. When I went to dress her in snow appropriate clothes, I found I was ill prepared for this weather, so I improvised. "This polka dot mess will suffice" was the thought running through my mind as I bundled her up to brave the winter cold. Polka Dot Mess is compliments of Mini Boden (coat), Uggs (boots), and Gymboree (for everything else). Her style is clearly the envy of all the other tots in our neighborhood ready to pelt mommy with snowballs....even if she is the only tot in the neighborhood. :D

I'm sure these pictures are an accurate portrayl of how I look and why I put all my energy into my daughters clothing, as you can see I'm pretty frumpy. Years ago, in the land before Riley (aka high school) I was a relatively skinny, pretty girl. Okay, I'm being modest-- I was way adorable. Only in retrospect can you say that without sounding completely self absorbed, right?

Riley wanted to wear her ballerina princess dress yesterday, so that is what she wore. I'm trying to let her have choices now that she is becoming more opinionated and she loves this (nightgown) dress to pieces, and I do have to say it is MUCH cuter in person than it is online or on the rack. It is a velour, so it does look better when dried unfortunately and it runs small. We did a size 4 so we could tumble dry. I just don't like the look nor feel of velour when hung dried. Paired with an old matching bow from Pink Hippo to make it look less nightgownish and some Uggs (it was freezing) this was the perfect outfit for quick errands and watching the dreaded Straw-ba-ba-bapple Berry. All. Day.

Still recovering, today was a day to lazily hang out inside. Riley started the day in an old line Gymboree outftit that was handed down to us from Nichole. Riley loves puddle jumping, so she soon destroyed outfit #1 and while that went into the wash, she moved into outfit #2, a dress from Eden's Bouquet we used as a tunic, and jeans from Baby Gap topped off with a headband from Janie & Jack.

I'm not sure the exact date of this outfit, but I'm thinking it was sometime during the week I didn't post. I've been out with just about any seasonal illness possible and I've tried to stay away from Riley while I was sick, hence the lack of pictures.

This is in the running for favorite outfit ever. It combines my favorite colors, has polka dots and a flouncy skirt. Who Let the Dots Out, by Mim Pi, you are a classic and-- I love you. No joke. I'm that obsessed. Now let's get this worn a few hundred more times before spring. Okay, maybe we'll shoot for 30 more times. We have to be realistic here, after all.

Meet THE furry vest. This eyesore is from Gymboree's new SuperStar line and was purchased during a moment of weakness at Gymboree's Circle of Friends Sale this previous weekend. Why did I buy this piece if I loathe it so? Because this girl right here, in the picture, she LOVES it. She told me "Mommy I looooove this. So soft." How could I deny this girl, right here, of a piece of clothing she LOVES that doesn't have ugly Dora on it? I could not. Hence why she owns it.

However, regardless of how I feel personally about this vest, I think Riley still rocks it. She has the personality to pull off something this sassy, and on her- I love it. We paired it with Gap skinny jeans, a headband from loveable creations on etsy, Uggs and a FABULOUS shirt from Gymboree's Wild One line.

This is Janie & Jack's Parisian Park poodle sweaterdress size 3. With the matching knee socks, and marabou bows made by the lovely Amanda, this outfit is dying for a lunch date or something to show it off. Sadly, we stayed home all day so Mommy could study-- closeting this beauty. Crossing my fingers that she wears it again on a more exciting day!

It was double Panda trouble today on a playdate with Miss Peytiebugs (to see her fashion daily, check out www.peytonrae.blogspot.com) They were decked out head to toe in Gymboree's Holiday Panda line. I don't think there is anything in the world cuter than decking out "sister/friends" in matching outfits, thank goodness for my wallet Riley is an only child!

Back to our regularly scheduled horrible fashion show pictures, folks. That was such a nice little run though, wasn't it? ;)

Today we just ran some errands so I threw Riley in the first thing I saw. The tunic is from Matilda Jane and the ruffle pants were made by vintagepearle on etsy. Her work is fabulous, and quick. The flower was put together by the lovely Jessica of LittleBeautyBoutique and the shoes are Lelli Kelly. Today was a collection of funky treasure pieces from little known designers. Nothing makes me beam more than telling someone of my new shopping adventures, and people ALWAYS ask questions about MJ! These pants solicited many compliments today, I almost wish I had the sellers card to hand out! Gotta love etsy!

Initially, I didn't care for Baby Gap's Corsica line. That changed in an instant when I picked this dress up on a major price kill. We paired it with solid black leggings from Mim Pi, sand colored Uggs and a blue bow in her ponytail from Pink Hippo bowtique in Urbandale, Iowa.

I honestly couldn't tell you what has gotten into this child. The posing, the smiles, they have completely caught me off guard. But I am loving it, and hopefully it makes my little blog more bearable to read ;) Today she is showing off her pumpkin she picked from the patch a few weeks ago that she is so proud of.

My favorite thing about Matilda Jane Clothing is the ability of a piece to evolve. Last year, she wore this top as a tunic dress, it is now a peasant top paired with brown ruffles (for the last time). There is something so perfectly sentimental about seeing your daughter grow in the same piece of clothing, and this being my favorite MJ top in the history of MJ, I'm beyond enthused that it has lasted us two seasons and still looks fantastic.

Tomorrow is my 21st birthday, so this picture may have to tide you over for a little while ;)

This is Riley's friend, TG and Riley after a lunch date. It's not often that I have the honor of posting a picture of two adorably dressed little Gap girls! :)

Riley is wearing her Abbey Road shift mini dress, for the last time because it is officially TOO short. But I love it, so I am happy I squeezed one last wear out of it. Today we paired with the usual matching knee socks from Baby Gap and shoes from Target but added a military style jacket from the same line that I picked up on sale for $9.99 a couple weeks ago. It adds a entire new level to the outfit and makes it weather appropriate, since the short sleeves of this dress no longer are. The polka dot purple piggie bows are from the lovely Sara :)

....PS-- that's day two of a smiling Riley picture. Beware the icicles that may rise up from below tonight, because I think hell just froze over. ;)

Yes, you have seen this dress before. No, it didn't magically grow through the years with Riley-- though I wish it would since it costs a pretty penny to hunt down! It's my beloved Matilda Jane brownie lap dress, and it IS my favorite. I have found the sizing of it a bit odd though, the 2 was a baby doll on her and the 4 bags-- MJ, please consider "odd" sizes-- PLEASE?!? :)

We tried rolling her hair to see if the hot mess could be maintained.

It could not.

I guess it's a blessing that she finally has hair to deal with, after two years of bow bands. :)
